Come meet the incoming SSDP (Students for Sensible Drug Policy) and NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) officers at the University of Maryland for the coming year.

We will be screening the short hilarious but informative \"Bullshit: War on Drugs\" by Penn and Teller, introducing the officers, and discussing how everyone can get involved this year to help change drug laws on campus and around the region. ...

Come Find Out:

* Why SSDP was voted the BEST STUDENT GROUP OVERALL ON CAMPUS this past year.

* Why NORML was voted the BEST POLITICAL GROUP ON CAMPUS this past year.

* How NORML and SSDP plan to collaborate but also differentiate themselves as different groups.

* Why our drug laws, both on campus and around the Country, are badly in need of change, and how you can help change them!

* What informative and fun events we are planning for this coming year.

* What rights you have as students at the University of Maryland.

Bring your friends, comments, suggestions, and questions!

WE NEED YOU!
Got an extra hour per week? Wish you could be more directly involved in changing drug policies?

Try some of the suggestions below:

1) Help Us Multiply:
  • Tabling
  • Flyering (on campus, on other campuses, in your hometown)
  • Inviting your friends to join our Facebook group
  • Collect listserv sign-ups (each one gets us 1 SSDP point)
2) Lobbying, a.k.a. Making Your Officials Work For You:
  • Find out who your elected officials are, read SSDP\'s Lobbying Guide, and get in touch with them! Representatives love meeting up with motivated students, and you\'ll be amazed to find out that your meeting can actually have a huge effect on future state policy decisions.
  • We\'ll be meeting up with representatives over winter break to discuss medical marijuana and salvia laws, so please email SSDPterps@gmail.com if you\'re in the area and want to help out.
3) Boring (but super helpful) Data Entry: Yeah, I know it\'s lame, but someone\'s gotta do it. We have a ton of filled out sheets we have to get into a Google Doc.

4) Get Published, a.k.a. Become Famous:
  • Write an article for High Times under SSDP\'s new collaborative project!
  • ...for the school newspaper, The Diamondback. (Very easy)
  • ...for DareGeneration , SSDP\'s national blog. (contact irina@ssdp.org)
  • ...for any local newspaper! You\'ll be surprised how easy it is to get your name in the press!
  • Check out SSDP\'s media guide for tips
  • Email your article draft to ssdpterps@gmail.com for editing/feedback

5) Plan A Sickass Campus or Community Event:
  • Pick one from the list, or come up with one of your own. We\'ll take you through every step of the process. It\'s a super fun and extremely rewarding experience that\'ll teach you a lot of skills along the way.
6) Videos:
  • Editing: If you have a decent video editing program, help out by editing down a bunch of recordings we have from meetings. If you\'re super awesome, make those clips into a UMD SSDP promotional video.
  • Recording/Directing: We\'d like to make a short \"How to Table instructional video, plus maybe a \"How to Get People to Your Meetings\" (and any others you come up with). Both are something that wouldn\'t only strengthen our chapter, but would be spread far and wide throughout the hundreds of SSDP chapters across the world
7) Teach Your Friends How to Survive Police Encounters:

8) Get Us Some $$$:
  • We need money to get as many of our members as possible out to the conference. This document contains some helpful fundraising tips.
10) Add onto SSDPedia

Of course, the list of things to do is infinite! If any of this interests you, fill out this form or directly contact ssdpterps@gmail.com with any questions. You rule!

plus so many other ways to get active & stay involved.
want more? just email: ssdpterps@gmail.com
